Oliver Manzi’s Non Fat is a hard-hitting satire about the frustrations of working at a coffeebar, the irritations caused by the cult of slimness, and the ‘clash of coffee cultures’ (as quoted from FilmFour’s website). Shot in four hours, and edited and sound designed in one long night.
Much location sound has been used but exaggerated out of proportion to increase the comic effect. The punches needed special treatment in order be really painful. Sounds used include recordings of the assistant director Jaymz Wong punching director Oliver, as well as bass drum samples and various other thuds and bumps. The bass drone that keeps on getting louder as tempers are rising is a ventilator in close-mic recording.
